As a trainer I constantly battle against the myths and the everyday habits that people do or believe in, that are done day after day and turn out lack luster results.
My mission is to teach people the best way for them to get the fitness/health results they are striving for in the fastest, safest, and most effective manner.
I'm often challenged by new clients, friends, family, friends of friends that still believe some of the same old myths and end up on the receiving end of overwhelming scepticism, especially when I talk about achieving weight loss and "toning-up" results through utilizing varying weight training methods.
I can educate, explain, demonstrate and even put a person through a workout that represents an effective method of training based on proven science, yet still see them a day later back on the elliptical at the same low/moderate pace for 3x's the amount of time of our last workout. This will last for about 3more months and yield no change, then I will get asked the same question again,
"How can I lose weight and tone up? Your workout was hard, I don't think I need to lift because my friend said I need to do more cardio, that is why I stopped"
Other than diving into nutrition (that is another can of worms), or saying should have believed me before, I state again:
"You need to weight train"
"You need to get you heart rate up"
"You need to track your progress"
"You need to be consistent"
"Why? How?, I can teach you again and train with you again, if you don't believe me and want to continue doing the same thing that you are doing only to expect better results, then go ahead, you will be disappointed."
If they still don't seem bought into the idea, I give them this article.
So far I haven't had significant results with my weight loss. I'm pretty sure that I will not succeed by myself....Maybe, the only person who can help me with this weight loss Toronto problem is a personal trainer.
